Victoria University has multiple campuses in the western suburbs, with a total student population of 63,000. There are two campuses in Footscray – north near Footscray Park and south at Nicholson Street – with approximately 30,000 students. There is also an elite training facility at Whitten Oval. Victoria University is the most culturally diverse university in Australia and has a teaching and administration staff population of 3,000. The university is well known for its facilities of sports science and hospitality.
“In a ‘big picture’ sense, we see the potential for Footscray to evolve into a world-class destination in a similar vein as education and learning-driven urban precincts such as Palo Alto in California; Harvard in Boston; or locally Carlton or Fitzroy in Melbourne” said Mark Seymour of Seymour Strategists.
